Europa League Final

The final of the Europa League is played in Seville. The Spanish stadium Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán will host this final. Originally, the final of this edition was to be hosted by Budapest, but due to the postponement and relocation in 2020, Seville was pushed forward one year. The stadium is normally played by football club Sevilla, which has won the Europa League six times.

The stadium opened its doors in 1958 and in 1986 the final of the predecessor to the Europa League was held there. The Spanish national team has never lost a game in this city.

Format of Europa League

The format of the Europa League will be changed with effect from the 2021/22 season. This new format is similar to that of the new Europa Conference League.

The number of participants in the Europa League will be reduced from 48 to 32. The group stage consists of 8 groups of 4 teams. The 8 group winners will qualify directly for the round of 16.

There will be an extra qualifying round between the group stage and the round of 16. In this extra qualifying round, the 8 numbers two from the group stage will compete against the 8 numbers three from the group stage of the Champions League .

The Champions League remains unchanged. The number three from the group stage now no longer flows into the round of 16 of the Europa League, but in the extra qualifying round that comes before.
